WELCOME TO BALOCHISTAN ARCHIEVE DEPARTMENT
The Balochistan Archives is an executive agency of the Government of Balochistan which serves as the main repository for official records and documents of historical significance. The Archives contain evidence of financial and legal commitments, provide information about significant historical events, and help protect the civil and legal property rights of the citizens. In short, archives are the pillars on which the foundation of history stands and, therefore, require preservation and special care. We are the guardians of the most significant national and provincial level documents in Balochistan Province. Currently, we hold more than 30,000 files, printed (5,000 Rare Books) papers, books, and manuscripts pertaining to the colonial and post-independence period in Balochistan.
The Balochistan Archives is working under the Culture Tourism & Archives Department Government of Balochistan. The Directorate is the custodian of Richest Archives material in the form of books, old Government Documents, and literary rare material in local, national, and international languages. We are living in the age of technology; therefore, a digital preservation lab has been established in order to digitize rare archival material. The digitized material is being uploaded on the official website of archives for easy excess to researchers. The Balochistan Archives is also in coordination with other record-creating agencies for the collection of important records. The records as per Balochistan Archives Rule-2022 are further classified into different categories. First time in the history of Pakistan as compared to the other provincial directorates the Balochistan Archives has established divisional offices in each divisional headquarter with all facilities i.e. digital preservation lab and fully equipped record rooms.
The Balochistan Archives has considerable importance as it preserves the nation’s memory. Archives have not only been established as a repository for documents but it also has a significant impact on all segments of society. I think Balochistan archives will work continuously to build up its acquisitions of archival materials and historical documents.
Balochistan Archives seeks to become a center of excellence for the provision of archival, research, and educational services in Balochistan Province over the next five years. We envision the extension of our services to the general public and researchers interested in Balochistan’s culture and history across Pakistan and abroad over the next decade.
